The right care for men

We all know that daily skincare for men has to be much faster than for women. On average, men spend about 7 minutes a day caring for their face. Therefore, the application of skincare products should be as simple, fast and effective as possible.

Male skin vs. female skin

Men’s skin partly shows the same problems as women’s skin. Men also have to deal with sensitive, acneic, impure, and aging skin. However, there are gender-specific differences in the structure and function of the skin, which should be taken into account in skincare.

The properties of male skin are mainly determined by the hormone testosterone. Among other things, this hormone is responsible for increased sebum production. Men have more sebaceous glands, which are generally more active, so their skin often appears oilier and shinier and tends to impurities and acne. The high lipid content is also responsible for the fact that men are less prone to dry skin than women.

Male skin also contains a higher proportion of collagen and elastin, making men’s skin around 20 percent thicker than women’s. That is why products with light textures and emulsions are particularly suitable for the care of men’s skin. The way male skin ages also differs from the way female skin ages. The collagen content of men’s skin decreases continuously, while women’s skin is affected only later (especially after menopause). But then it becomes significantly thinner and the effects are more noticeable than with male skin. Even though wrinkles appear later on men than on women, when they occur, they are usually already very pronounced.

Regular shaving is very stressful for male skin. Similar to peeling, the top layer of skin is removed with every shave. Blunt razors also play a significant role in making men’s skin increasingly sensitive.

1. Cleansing

Ensure that the razor blade is sharp and always shave in the same direction as your hair growth. After shaving, the skin should be sufficiently moisturized.
