Natural skincare after sunbathing
Why is after sun care so important?
No matter how well you protect your skin, no suncream can provide 100% protection from the harmful effects of UV rays. That is why skincare after sunbathing is just as important as sun protection.
The sun’s life-giving energy is with us every day. While moderate exposure to the sun is essential for the production of vitamin D and the regulation of our circadian rhythms, excessive or unprotected exposure can cause significant damage. Sunburn, eye damage, premature skin ageing, pigmentation and even skin cancer are all linked to the effects of UV rays on our bodies. Even the most effective sunscreen does not provide complete protection.
That is why it is important to include a natural after-sun care routine in your sun protection programme. After-sun products are specifically formulated to meet the needs of the skin after exposure to the sun, and contain moisturising and soothing ingredients that deeply nourish the skin and support its repair mechanisms.
How does after sun products work?
Antioxidants: The best protection against free radicals
When UV rays hit our skin, free radicals are formed. These unstable molecules set off a chain reaction in the body that damages skin cells. When there is an imbalance between the production of free radicals and the body’s ability to effectively scavenge them, oxidative stress occurs, which in turn accelerates the ageing process of the skin.
Antioxidants have the ability to neutralize free radicals and reduce the extent of this chain reaction. After sunbathing, it is therefore advisable to treat your skin with antioxidant-rich skincare products. Our certified natural cosmetics contain powerful natural antioxidants such as fig extract, green tea, tocopherol (vitamin E) or squalane. They can help reduce the damage caused by UV rays over and above your sunscreen.
Moisturizing for sun-exposed skin
After sunbathing, our bodies need to be hydrated – both internally and externally. The longer you stay in the sun, the more you should drink to compensate for the loss of fluid through the skin. Fruits and vegetables also provide vitamins and phytonutrients to help regenerate the skin and contribute to a long-lasting, healthy tan.
You can also moisturise your skin by using after-sun products. Strong sun exposure and high temperatures can disrupt the skin’s natural moisture balance, often leaving it dry and dehydrated. Moisturising and hydrating ingredients such as aloe vera, glycerin or biotechnological hyaluronic acid help to restore moisture, strengthen the skin barrier and replenish moisture reserves.
Highly concentrated active serums deeply nourish the skin. Our Gentle Balancing Toner and Hyaluronic Blossom Facial Mist intensely hydrate the skin for a fresh, radiant complexion.
Our after sun inside tip
The Ultra Hydration Serum performs miracles after sunbathing. It deeply moisturizes the skin and has a slightly cooling effect. If your skin is very stressed, you can literally see how it “drinks” the serum and absorbs it in no time.
Cooling and soothing summer skin
Even if you don’t have a sunburn, don’t forget to treat your face and body with intensive after-sun care. As well as providing much-needed moisture, after-sun products help to soothe irritation and reduce itching, swelling and redness. Selected natural ingredients such as oat and rice extracts, aloe vera and chamomile have a soothing and calming effect on sensitive skin. They support the skin’s natural healing process and promote rapid regeneration.
To enhance the cooling effect of our Ultra Hydration Serum, Hyaluronic Body Serum and Pure Hydrating Body Lotion, store them in the fridge during the summer. Your skin will appreciate the refreshing coolness after sunbathing.
